ISIOLO: LOCAL ODM LEADERS CONDEMN THE DISMISSAL OF HOUSE MINORITY LEADER,DEMAND FOR THE SPEAKER TO RETRACT HIS DECISION!

ODM leaders, members and supporters of Charri MCA Ali Dima have held a press conference where they condemned the decision by the Isiolo County Assembly speaker Hussein Roba to dismiss the MCA from the house sittings and also allegedly stripped him(Dima) of his minority leadership position which he is the de facto appointee because he is the only member who won his bid on the ODM ticket.

Mr. Dima has on his part maintained that he did not break any laws by 'asking to be furnished with the necessary documents pertaining to the activities of the assembly' sayin he is doing so within the constitutional limits of his jurisdiction as a minority leader who is tasked with the mandate to challenge the Assembly's excesses.

The leaders who showed up at the press conference include the former Cherab MCA and erstwhile house minority leader Mr. Hassan Kumpa who maintained that being one of the architect of the said standing orders, nowhere in the standing order does it give the speaker the authority to strip a house minority leader of his post saying such powers lies with the party and not the speaker.

He(Kumpa) is now calling on the Speaker to reverse his decision unconditionally. He also maintains that should that not happen, then the speaker should prepare for a full blown legal battle.

The supporters of Mr. Dima also maintain that the ongoing wrangles will have 'far reaching impacts on the socio-economic health of Isiolo county as the assembly spends more time wrangling over menial issues while real issues facing the electorates do not get debated'.

We were unable to get the house speaker's comment about the new developments but shall let you know once we get wind of anything.
