The County Government of Isiolo led by Governor Dr. Mohamed Abdi Kuti have embarked on the distribution of relief food to locals affected by the prolonged drought in various parts of the county as we reported earlier on.

The foodstuffs were flagged off by Governor Kuti who was in the company of a number of MCAs, the newly appointed CECM for Health Mr. Adan Wario Galma, municipal manager Mr. Osman Halake and Special Programs C.O Ms. Abdia Dabaso among other dignitaries and members of the public.

The governor while addressing the press reiterated his commitment to make sure that no one in Isiolo county is affected by the famine that has resulted from the prolonged drought.
He also revealed that his administration is working on homegrown solutions to mitigate food shortage as it is increasingly becoming clear that pastoralism as a way of life is becoming unsustainable and said plans are already underway to make select regions within the county into food baskets by piloting irrigation along the Waso river.

Governor Kuti also added that he will be back to request for more support from the National Government especially since there is already an imminent danger posed by flash floods as a result of the heavy rains experienced in the higher grounds.
ICBN has already received reports of flooding in Iresaboru which is a township in Sericho ward and several households are reportedly displaced, we are working on a comprehensive piece as we expect a full report from the ground.
Governor Kuti has pledged to seek additional support from the National Government as he reiterates more is still to be done to preempt any imminent hazards occasioned by natural disasters such as flash floods.

Burat MCA Yarrow lauded Governor Kuti's administration for acting on time to preempt a potential disaster as he narrated how some of his constituents were on the verge of starvation.

The most affected regions so far are Cherab, Charri, Sericho and Oldonyiro and the relief food will come in handy to help ease the strain on struggling families.
