Everything is set and ready ahead of the 2019 edition of the annual Desert Wheelchair Race which will be held tomorrow.

Key among those in attendance will be governors from each of the competing counties who will be around to give moral and material support to their competing athletes among other activities expected at the event.

The event is meant to raise awareness on the issues of people living with disabilities especially in the ASAL region where local PWDs know little of their rights and privileges as set out in the constitution.

Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti who is hosting the event for the second time in a row under his administration has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the rights of the PWDs are honoured and respected by all and further added that his administration has set out measures to ensure the PWDs live in a conducive environment free from stigma that shall enable them engage in businesses and enable them realise their dreams.

Governor Kuti further revealed that his administration has passed The Isiolo Enterprise Act which apparently focuses on the empowerment of Youth, Women and PWDs. He says this will now allow the PWDs to benefit from grants from the County government which will in turn allow them to engage in various economic ventures and earn a decent living.

ICBN shall keep you updated as the event progresses.
