#ICBNsports: Olympic FC Carry The Day As County League Comes To A Wrap!

Olympic FC have been crowned as the champions of Isiolo County League after beating Ibin Tainia FC as the two finalists battled it out for the top prize at Kiwanjani Primary School playground on Sunday.

Isiolo Queens also emerged victorious in the girls section as they played it out with their closest rival Starlets FC who came emerged as runners up in the girls section.

The finalists were each presented with a trophy, balls and cash prizes according to the category they won in. Medals were also awarded to the individual players.
The best scorer and and the best goal keeper of the tournament were also awarded.

The event which was hosted and   cosponsored by the Hon Sumeya Bishar, a youthful nominated MCA at the Isiolo county assembly who has recently received accolades for her outstanding record in youth and women empowerment.
In her closing speech, she urged the government agencies to invest more in sports as that is an investment in youth as it will help in solving a lot of social issues when the youth are fully and properly engaged in sports.
She also praised the league organizers for introducing the ladies category saying that is what motivated her to want to be a part of the event.

Hon. Sumeya who donated the trophies and shouldered most of the expenses of the tournament has urged for more involvement in the youth issues which she says could help drastically reduce drug abuse and other vices such as radicalization which has been a major challenge in the region.
The players that we spoke to have decried the total lack of support from the sports department at the county which they collectively agreed has been the source of frustration and often puts them at a great disadvantage when they travel for away matches as a number of the teams participate in the Division 1 league too.
However, they are hopeful that a meeting which took place between the sports stakeholders and the governor's representatives on Saturday will be fruitful and will help smoothen the operation of the tournament in the future.

Kerrow, one of the organizers of the tournament maintained that if hon. Sumeya did not intervene when she did, the tournament would have been a total catastrophe and takes issue with some officials in the sports department whom he says are sleeping on the job and are a reason the sports sector in Isiolo is yet to pick up despite the region being cited as a hub of sports talent by a number of sports pundits and even added that several top national league agents have been scouting for talent in the region.
