ISIOLO TOWN: MUNICIPAL MANAGER OUTLINES PLAN FOR TOWN DEVELOPMENT!

The newly appointed Isiolo Municipality manager Mr. Osman Halake has outlined his plan for the town development following the receipt of funds promised to them by the donors earlier this year.

The donation which is supposedly to the tune of Kes 800M is to be utilised for upgrading the road network within the town and flood lights which is to be erected at strategic places within the town.
The earmarked areas as mentioned by the manager are Mwangaza, Checheles A and two other locations. He said this on Shahidi Radio earlier this morning.

Mr. Halake made an appeal to the listeners to comply with notices given to them by the municipality to vacate stalls put up along the pavements and highways saying most of them will be affected once the construction works starts as most of them stand on space meant for road development.

He further added that they have decided to drastically reduce the number of car washes within the CBD saying they have too many car washes for a single town.
He said this makes most of them to not reap good profits from the business. Another reason he says is the fact that most of them do not make plans on the drainage of the used water which he says is left to flow freely making the town 'dirty' with the oil residues from the vehicles being washed.

A number of listeners protested the move saying they have many people depending on those businesses. A lady wondered how their hubbies, sons and friends shall make a living considering that is the only trade they have skills to transact and denying them that shall deny families a chance to decent lives and good education for their children.

Another lady who called expressed panic following the move saying this was a pure recipe for increased insecurity in the area since most of the youth who would be rendered unemployed by the municipality's move would most definitely turn to crime.
She has called on the manager to make proper plans to find an alternative site for the vendors or else it will open a Pandora's box whose consequences may be costlier!

Some have also come out to support the move by the municipality since it is  long overdue for Isiolo to serve its place as a modern town. A number of people have expressed disappointment in the municipality regarding the poor road networks esp in CBD where the highway has no single zebra crossing, bumps or any signage for that matter including speed limit.
This has led many to believe that pedestrians in Isiolo have no right of way since they aver that crossing a street in Isiolo CBD is deemed to be a very risky affair.
Justifiably, cases of accidents are reported along the stretch from SDJ supermarket to Grande Hotel prompting concerned authorities to start laying bumps as of yesterday!

We shall let you in on more as we get further info about this interesting development in the newly upgraded municipality.
